Access All Areas – Tubes, Drains & Lines

When nursing the critical patient we often rely on tubes, drains and lines to help us manage the patients condition whilst they are hospitalised. In this session we will take a closer look at some of the common devices that can be utilised in the sick hospitalised patient such as advanced venous access, urinary catheters, chest drains and tracheostomy tubes. Such devices can increase the risk of a hospital acquired infection so it is important that the nursing team have a good understanding of when these devices may be used, how they are placed and the nursing considerations for the patient whilst they are in situ.
